2nd Location at Falls City Brewing – Insider Louisville Feature

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana is slated to officially open its second Louisville location on Friday, July 19, adjacent to Falls City Brewing Co.’s taproom on East Liberty Street.

The partnership between the restaurant and brewery, which originally was announced last November, will create a sort of two-in-one concept wherein the taproom essentially will serve as Bandido’s dining room. Customers can order at Bandido, receive a pager, then walk to the taproom for a beer or cocktail. They will then be notified when their food is ready for pickup.

As part of the opening, Falls City will expand its hours, opening at noon seven days a week to serve the lunch crowd. In addition, Bandido will open at 10 a.m. daily to serve breakfast burritos, which also will be available all day as regular menu items.

The California-style taqueria also features a range of tacos, quesadillas, nachos and burritos, with a focus on fresh ingredients and plenty of seafood options, along with a salsa bar.

Calling Bandido its new “official food partner,” Falls City also announced some new weekly promotions to its schedule.

Saturday and Sunday brunch will include specials on mimosas, beermosas, bloody marys and other drinks. Mondays also will be a day-long “happier hour,” with $1 off beers all day.

On Tuesdays, Falls City and Bandido will team up for Taco Tuesday, featuring $1.99 tacos and $5 margaritas. Wednesdays will feature taproom trivia (beginning July 24), and Thursdays will be designated as new beer release days.

(Note: New beers may not be released every week.)

In addition, Falls City will no longer have food trucks, and outside food is no longer permitted in the taproom.

Bandido hours will be Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-midnight; and Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Falls City’s new hours will be Monday through Thursday, noon-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon-midnight; and Sunday, noon-8 p.m.

While Bandido Taqueria Mexicana is not exactly on the University of Louisville’s campus, it has all the makings of a college go-to. With massive portions at student-friendly prices, this taqueria offers indulgent sustenance befitting of the campus it lives adjacent to.

The fact that Bandido also boasts an impressive salsa bar and that menu items are made to order are bonuses that shouldn’t be undervalued. The mix of flavors and spices found among the salsa bar selections were not always equally represented across the menu, items either bursting with heat or without much seasoning to speak of. However, when the flavors do hit, they make a solid impression.

Tacos are only part of the equation at Bandido, with burritos given equal, if not more, weight in the lineup. The menu is scrawled across a blackboard in colorful chalk, where you can find breakfast burritos, three different styles of tacos, quesadillas, nachos and more than a dozen additional burritos rounding out the offerings.

Orders are taken at a counter across from the entrance and the kitchen in full action just behind the register. A massive, round griddle sits at the center of it all, light smoke curling into the air as various proteins and vegetables are chopped and seared before filling flour tortillas or being piled atop a mountain of chips or french fries.
